RUN: February 28 - March 30, 2003
SYNOPSIS: Center Players’ 2003 season kicks off with the critically acclaimed drama, I Never Sang For My Father, by Robert Anderson. This Signature Series presentation is the story of Gene, a young widower with an elderly mother, whom he loves, and an eighty year old father, whom he has never loved, hard as he tried. The father has been mayor of a small town in Westchester County, self-made and highly respected. Beneath these trappings, however, he is a mean, unloving and ungenerous man, who has driven his daughter away and has alienated his son through his possessiveness, his selfishness and his endless reminiscences.
Director Deborah Pedretti passionately plays the action to create a heartfelt story driven by emotion and tempered by humor. The cast features returning Center Players’ actors Paul Nixon (Play On!) as the father, Joan E. Lopatin (Crossing Delancey) as the mother, William Rogers (Laughter on the 23rd Floor) as the son and Jody Reisa Nurre (The Immigrant) as the daughter. Also appearing are Jason Crystal, Patricia Seligman and Elinore Weinberg.
